New additions to the collection

This week four new additions to the studio collection have arrived. Bought at auction, the pieces are by Malcolm Harrison, Penelope Read and Laura Vassilis.

Malcolm Harrison was a well-known textile artist and fashion designer, best known for his stitched artworks. This sales page shows some of those and also the art he created. The new untitled piece in the collection is large – 88cm x 88cm – and, as you can see from the photograph at the head of this article, is of people promenading along what looks like a quay with a Classical column at its end and buildings.

The remaining three pieces have been made by Penelope Read and Laura Vassilis. There is very little information about either of these artists, although Penelope Read does appear in a catalogue online. The three pieces were bought as a job lot of “Wearable Art”; one is an embroidered kaftan, another, a quilted jacket and the third, a hand-painted cotton wrap-around coat. You can see all the items on the auction site here – item 0087.

It would be fascinating to learn more about any and all of these items and artists so if anyone has any more information please get in touch.
