It is time for the blog to take its annual rest for the Christmas celebrations, and this will be the last one for a few weeks. Thank you all for taking time to read, write and comment over the last year. Your support has been tremendous and I have loved discovering a different rhythm to writing the blog since our move over to Aotearoa New Zealand from the UK.
The blog is coming up for seventeen years old in 2024. Over the years it has developed a loyal following from around the world and it is a pleasure to get emails from old friends who have been with us for a long time. I love the way the blog brings us all closer together.
For those of you who spent time with us in Shetland over the years you might remember Maggie, a good friend who volunteered many hours for GlobalYell at the studios in Yell. Maggie left us a few weeks ago after a long illness but also left behind lots of happy memories. We will remember her with love and gratitude.
This year the weather patterns across the world are continuing to be affected by climate change and El Nino. In Southern Africa people are waiting anxiously for rain while in other parts of the globe there are floods. In 2024 I shall look at our contribution to climate change to see where we can make changes. It may be small but I believe that a little by each of us can help.
I shall miss my extended families, spread across the world, this Christmas, but am grateful to have wonderful whanau in our new home. As we end our year and head off to family over the mountains for a Christmas lunch we shall raise a toast to absent friends and spend a moment thinking about those who live in exile or who are alone.
So, as the pohutakawa flowers in profusion to welcome the season, here is to another year. May 2024 be filled with everything you hope for. I look forward to continuing to share new adventures with you all.
