Knitwear from the 1980s

A new book has been added to the library recently: The Pure New Wool Designer Knitwear Collection published in 1986.

The 1980s stand out as a time when fashion became neon bright, when day-glo hues were de rigueur and when it was considered good taste to be dressed in flashy colours. This book though shows a softer side to the fashion of that time with “36 exclusive patterns for hand-knitting” by well-known designers and houses.

In this collection are pieces by Pierre Cardin, Kaffe Fassett, Zandra Rhodes, The Emanuels as well as Susan Duckworth, Jane Davies, Sirdar and Robin. There are others besides but all the designs have the distinction of being uniquely from the ’80s.

The library is being moved at present to the new studio in the Regent Theatre in Greymouth. It is open to the public for use as a reference library and a visit can be arranged by email.
