A new book of fabulous winter knits by the Australian designer, Jenny Kee, has just been added to the library.
Jenny Kee started working in the 1960s in Australia before moving over to London where she worked with Vern Lambert at Chelsea Antique Market. Here she developed an interest in vintage and antique clothing, and bold, striking colour. In 1973, back in Sydney, Kee opened Flamingo Park where she began to design knitwear based on Australian flora and fauna alongside Linda Jackson. In 1983 Karl Lagerfeld used Opal Oz, a print by Kee, for his first ready-to-wear collection for Chanel and in 1988 she designed the official scarf and uniform fabrics for the Australian Bicentenary, as well as a rug for Canberra’s new Parliament House.
This book, Winter Knits, revels in the bright colours that the designer is known for. With its bold motifs – anyone fancy wearing the Opera House in top to toe knitwear? – and 1980s styles – remember when tutus were fashion items – the book comes complete with knitting patterns and graphs. A fun and fantastic read even for those who don’t knit but enjoy exuberant fashion!

The studio library is open for researchers and students. There are more books arriving shortly and bookings to use the library can be made by email.
