A brief hiatus

Hello, dear readers,

Over the past few weeks I have had lots of good wishes and support for the studio in Māwhera Greymouth. The mountain of boxes and paper and wrapping and crates has dwindled and diminished to a much more manageable amount and the smallest of the computerised looms is now up and running with a new warp going on. The studio is looking brighter every day and there is now a table for working on, another for designing printed fabrics and weave patterns, a library area, and, right at the front in the large shop windows, the small loom with a warping mill and adjacent sewing machine. It now looks like a Proper Textile Studio!

I have artist friends working on a logo too. That should be ready in the next couple of weeks and it will then go above the pavement outside the studio where there is a lighted box for advertising, and on the windows.

All of this has taken time and lots of energy so I am going to take a break for a couple of weeks. As regular readers will know, we are off to the CTANZ symposium next week and then we will be farm-sitting for friends for a few days.

Thank you for all of your support and enthusiasm while this transition has been underway. There will be much news when we return and I am looking forward to sharing it all with you.

Andy

Enjoy your break – very well earned. It has been wonderful hearing about your relocation on the other side of the world and the issues you have dealt with. Having visited the studio in Yell some years ago (it was heaven but my husband just couldn’t understand why I wanted more time just to look and smell!) I have appreciated how major the first part of the journey must have been.

      Hi Fiona,
Thank you for your message a few weeks ago. You are right. It took a while to settle in here but that seems like a distant memory now! You will be pleased to hear that the new studio is coming along and I will shortly be open for workshops and visits. It lacks the wool smell at the moment but that will come…
