In this important year for the blog, its twentieth, it is time to rethink what it is and how it works. You, dear readers, might be able to help.
The original idea for the blog was to write about music and textiles from the point of view of Shetland and the textile studio in Yell. Since then it has expanded to include art and culture from across the globe that you might find interesting or useful. A recent addition was the inclusion of the Spotify playlist, promoting the breathtaking diversity of music from around the world, albeit limited to the platform’s content restrictions.
Now that the new studio on the West Coast is nearly ready to open and a new Trust is about to be created to carry on the work of GlobalYell in Aotearoa New Zealand, it is a good chance to rethink what the blog is and what it can be. The arts, of course, will always be a focus, but there are lots of ways of writing about the arts, using them to bring people together, to find common ground, to celebrate our creativity, or to help navigate situations.
So, what do you think? What would you like to see the blog being used for? How could it transform in this celebratory year? What would you like to see and hear on the blog? Any and all ideas welcome!
