This week the loom in the studio is finally weaving!

Over the past few months we (a friend who is an expert in all things to do with looms and me) have been working to get this loom running. It was used by a designer from Gisborne who kindly donated it to the studio and, after much fiddling with cables and mechanics, not to mention electronics, it is once again weaving cloth.
The first cloth on the loom is a Shetland wool sample. Using wool that came out with the equipment from the UK the colours are inspired by the end of the day on the West Coast and the snowy mountains that act as a backdrop to its spectacular rain forests.

Over the next few months the studio will shift focus to production for making cloth to sell as well as developing new workshops and events for the community. For the moment it is enough to have a working loom creating cloth once more.

Hi Andy. So cool you got the AVL going!!.
What was the final solution?
Well, I had to use a different solenoid box and computer, and then we had to change cables over and mess around with them until they were all the correct length. Then it was a case of testing each element and finally, once the electronics were talking to each other and the loom was operating, we had to adjust springs and tensions. Now it is working perfectly and the fly shuttle is allowing the weaving to progress quite quickly.
Beautiful warp Andy. How exciting to have a working loom again.
Thanks Tammy. It is great to have it working at last. The next stage is to get another loom working upstairs from the studio to use in production!
