An exhibition in New York is all about skirts.

The show,  “Wool Skirts,” is just about to finish on March 15 at Sudestada in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, and it is a display of 130 skirts and 29 new pieces by artists and designers. These were made using 47 skirts from the collection, which numbers 632 pieces. The original collection was gathered together by one woman, Audrey Huset of Minnesota, who visited thrift shops to buy good quality wool skirts. These were probably intended to be repurposed but now they form a repository of memory for the family and a history of manufacture, fashion and tastes over a forty year period from 1940.

You can read about the show here.

While on the subject of skirts, the studio collection has just had a donation of a “Seweasy Dress Pack”. This is a ready-pleated skirt length of fabric to make up a 45 inch hip and 30 inch length skirt, plus 1.25 yards of 36 inch unpleated fabric for a top and trimmings. Still in its original plastic packaging the instructions enclosed are simple and to the point…
