The studio has been busy this week.

There been visitors from Norway, Finland, New Zealand, Scotland and England, and New Zealand and our volunteers have been in as well as some local people. It is the start of the summer season and with the good weather come the visitors.

There has been a change-around at the studio to accomodate this season. A new area where products for sale are displayed has been created and some of the equipment for making warps for weaving has been brought out of storage. The sewing machines have all been overhauled and checked and they have been working, sewing scarves and wraps. Now it is onto production and a new series of scarves is being warped up at the moment, ready for weaving off next week.

One of the projects that I have been working on is printed scarves, head squares and pocket squares. Here is where there is a snag. No-one in New Zealand or Australia prints onto wool and that either means that I will have to use an overseas printer in Vietnam or the UK, or will have to adapt to using cotton or silk. It is a conundrum because wool is my preferred fabric but fingers crossed that a good solution is reached.

If you are in Greymouth please do pop into the studio – opening hours are weekdays 11 to 3 or by appointment – and see what is going on.
