I am looking for singers who would like to perform a piece that has been written for the Left Bank Gallery Choir.
A poem by Witi Ihimaera was the starting point for a new work: Only By Her Wings. With permission from the author to create a musical piece from the poem, one of the choir members asked me to compose something.
I have often written arrangements of music but composing is something new to me. In the past I have dabbled but never with much success. This however felt different. The music seemed to come of its own accord and the choir has started learning the parts for a performance in July. We need more singers though. The ability to read music is not necessary although it would be helpful. I have created audio files of the different sections of the piece and can email those out to anyone who would like to participate. Rehearsals for the choir are on Thursday evenings at 6:30 in the Left Bank Art Gallery in Māwhera/ Greymouth, and if you would like to come along for a look-see please email to let me know.
