As well as the newest Context, number 47, the Costume and Textile Aotearoa New Zealand publication, a book about Scandinavian knitwear and and Kishies and Cuddies, the basketry of Shetland have been added to the library.

Context is, as usual, filled with fascinating articles, collection insights and reviews, including Mayan weaving, string bags in Southern West Papua, the Eden Hore collection and storytelling and contemporary textiles. Context is always a good read and there are lots of ideas for inspiring, thinking and connecting.

Scandinavian knitwear by Alice Starmore is 30 original designs based on traditional patterns. Taking in Norway, Sweden and Finland, the book offers a contemporary-for-then (1982) look at how these traditions have become something new for makers and designers the world over.

The last addition is a new book, just published by Lois Walpole, about the baskets of the Shetland Isles in the UK. With contributions from academics and makers, and illustrated histories, instructions and identification, this book is a beautiful addition to the library.

The library is open to the public for research or simply browsing through the books and magazines. To use the library please email andy@globalyell.org or come into the studio when the lights are on. Full opening times will be operational from mid-October.
