As many of you will know, next year the Costume and Textiles symposium will be held on the West Coast. Here are some more details of what to expect.

Although plans are still at an early stage and things might change we are planning to not only have talks and presentations but also a mini film festival on a textile theme, exhibitions in shops and galleries, and choral music. In addition we are going to be looking for 10cm by 10cm textile pieces on the theme of symposium, “In Search of the Fabulous Idea”, for exhibiting in the Left Bank Art Gallery. More details about this will be announced closer to the time but get those thinking caps on!

We are also planning a fashion show with a difference. That difference is you. We are going to ask attendees to symposium to bring and wear something that you value, that holds a story or meaning for you, and that you think others might enjoy seeing. It need not be expensive or elaborate. As long as it fits into the theme somehow it will be a welcome part of symposium. Again, more details will follow as soon as they have been settled-on.

Symposium is always great fun and a wonderful way to come together to celebrate our love of fabric, fashion, clothing, costume, art and craft. People have started to book their accommodation for April next year and we will shortly have a list of accommodation providers for you to choose from.

The dates for symposium in 2027 are the 2nd to the 4th April with an opening event on the 1st April as people arrive for it. The venue for talks and films will be the Regent Theatre in the heart of Greymouth with other venues nearby and up and down the Coast.

Wow! It sounds wonderful and I wish I could attend but it’s a bit far away. Are you wanting textile pieces from Australia? Would love to send something if it is appropriate.

Hi Sue. I will make sure to take plenty of pictures of the events.
What a great idea, sending something in for the exhibition. Yes please! I will post details soon so that people can plan and get things together. April sounds like a long way away but with the way time is speeding past it will soon be here.

The whole symposium sounds great. I’d be happy to wear/show the vest I made from a piece of your Shetland tweed. That was a very fabulous trip for me. Might even convince Sue to bring her sample in person.

That sounds like a great plan! An Australian contingent would be a marvellous idea, if it can happen. And then I’d get to see what you have done with the Shetland tweed.
