Dear readers of the blog,

This is the final blog to come from GlobalYell. After two decades of posting regularly about music and textiles the time has come to complete the move that began four and a half years ago, from Shetland to Greymouth.

Change is complicated and it takes time. We moved to Aotearoa New Zealand in February four years ago and gradually settled into our new home. Now with the studio up and running, and with Exciting Developments to do with jackets and coats (more news about this in the next few weeks), with the registration of The Textile Trust, Aotearoa and its new website underway – textile trust.org, with the planning of the Costume and Textiles Aotearoa New Zealand symposium in 2027 in Greymouth, and with the summer rapidly approaching, it is time to move the blog over and close down GlobalYell.

There are going to be some changes to the blog in its new home.

Based on what you have said – thank you for corresponding – the Spotify playlist is not going to continue. An homage to the early years of GlobalYell when it was solely a music-related charity, now the playlist is superfluous as most of you join the blog for its textile news. There may be occasional playlists though to go with specific articles but the almost-weekly format will no longer be part of the newsletter. Perhaps it is timely. This week’s Spotify playlist is the 100th in the series!

There will now be more of a focus on New Zealand in the blog entries although I will continue to write about art, history and heritage from across the globe. Over the past few years the blog has shifted gradually from its UK and Europe-centric beginnings to the Pacific but now the time has come to focus more on the South.

You will be able to contribute articles either by email – andy@textiletrust.org – or by by completing a form on the website. It is always good to hear from people across the world about textile happenings but sometimes emails get lost and I forget to post them as articles. By having a form, the articles you send in will automatically go onto the website in draft so that when I get to doing the weekly blog they are already available for editing. Fingers crossed it works!

I will be using more images on the website entries. You have said that you like pictures and text so I shall use more photographs and scans.

The name of the blog will change too. Stray Notes, Loose Threads came from reader consultation a few years ago and it referenced the music beginnings of GlobalYell in Shetland. Now that music is not a focus for the Textile Trust, it is appropriate that there is a new name but, to keep a small reminder of the two decades of the Shetland-based blog, I have decided to call the new blog “Stray Threads”.

Thank you to you all for writing, reading and keeping in touch. It is good to have such a dedicated network of enthusiasts and I look forward to continue sharing news with you all.
